![]() I can't even access the chat history without installing Skype 8. Now it seems to be finally true, Skype 7 does not allow any more a registration. A German blog reader mentioned at the end of January 2019, that his Skype client won't work anymore. Well, I haven't used Skype for a while, but I still have the Skype 7 client installed on my Windows 7. I reported this within the blog post Skype Classic: Support ends on November 1st 2018. The company has announced the end of support for Skype Classic (Skype Client 7.x) for November 1st 2018 and recommends users to update to Skype 8.x and later immediately. Users who are still using the Skype desktop client in version 7.x (there are probably some scenarios for use in corporate environments), was informed to upgrade to version 8.x of the client.Īfter a shitstorm (Microsoft has ruined the Skype 8 client), the company had to row back a bit and extend the life of the Skype 7 client. There are no versions of the seventh branch compiled after this date.Ĩ) A few years later, Skype 7 will no longer be supported, while the Skype 8 will become the classic. In July 2018, Microsoft announced with the launch of the new Skype 8.0 client that the desktop version 7.x of the old client would expire on Septem(see my blog post Skype Classic v7.x client End of life extended …). Recruits, by "classic" means 6.16 (because it's deobfuscated) and 6.21 (because it's latest version that has old-school design).Ħ) When Skype 7 went live (more exactly, 6.21.85.104), people preferred the classic ones because, as they said, the New Skype looks like a "cemetery gallery" and bubble chats are awful.ħ) The 8.9.0.1 was first public version of the new Skype that was compiled at October 26, 2017. Taking this into account, I can consider that it is abandoned (I hope that I'm wrong).Ĥ) When a version is developed for a specific OS, it does not support other ones (for example, try to install 7.40.0.104 on Windows XP, or 7.36.0.150 on Windows 7).ĥ) Veterans say that the classic version is 3.8 or 4.2. Exactly this version receives updates in normal mode as it was always for all versions.Ģ) Version 7.40.0.151 is the latest version of seventh branch (and it does not matter for which OS the fixes were released).ģ) Skype 7 (both for macOS and for Windows) has not been updated for an unusually long time. I do not want to argue with you, so in short I want to convey my thoughts:ġ) Skype 8 is latest version of Skype for Windows Desktop. PS: All the emoticons are supported in Skype Classic. Select the arrow on the right side of the button and a dropdown menu/list will show and you will see "Skype Classic".Ī direct link to the Skype Classic download is: Īlso Skype Classic still receives updates as v. On the blue download button that says "Get Skype for Windows". Now they are trying to make Skype more like a social network then the VOIP/Messaging service it was made to be. Microsoft's Skype takeover started off by removing P2P support and making Skype cloud based. A lot of people I know prefer Skype Classic because it is less buggy and a lot better looking. ![]() "Skype Classic" is a download option on Skypes site, but you do not have Skype Classic listed on this page. Latest version of "Skype Classic" is: 7.40.0.104 Skype Classic is Skype without all the new junk that Microsoft has been adding lately. Skype for Windows is the new style Skype (ugly Skype).
